not so new adventures for me...

yep, I Quit. I only worked one day and i quit. I have a new respect for people in the childcare industry. Although i love children, I am not cut out to work in a daycare, but that's not the real reason i quit. I was supposed to be with another "experienced" teacher for the next two weeks. Yesterday was my first day and i was put in a classroom of 3 to 4 year olds, 15 of them and 2 of which were autistic. Oh, and might i add that i was by myself. After a couple of hours of not having a clue what we were supposed to do, what the normal routine was, not knowing where any of the supplies or activities were, and losing one of the kids a few, okay several times, because she kept leaving the room if i didn;t stand right by the door, i lost complete control of the class. At one point the little girl who kept leaving (who was one of the autistic kids) was angry with me b/c i wouldn't let her leave and started screaming, the other autistic child started throwing things (wooden cars about 3 inches in length) at the other children who also started screaming because little "johnny" (we'll call him johnny) threw a car and hit me in the head, 3 of the bigger brute boys were playing WWE in the corner, at the same time a parent came in with a little kid who didn't want to stay for obvious reasons. whew. needless to say i called for help and they actually switched me to the nursery...aww the babies. much better. they cry but they can't run out of the class and throw things at you...not very hard anyway. so by the end of a very long 8 hours i was ready to go home. and after talking to the director, i still wasn't sure that i would go back today. i didn't. i called her this morning and told her i wouldn't be back and that it just wasn't gonna work for me. so we'll see what else might come along. the way i look at it, if God wants me to work, something will come along. in the meantime i'm enjoying Aaron's company and staying at home, again.

Too funny!! Sorry it didn't work out for you and that you had such a "trying" experience. They should have never left you alone right away, esp. with that many kids and even more esp. with autistic kids. Shame on them. But, at least you're home for now....again. Enjoy it cuz it won't last forever! Love ya!

I think you would make a great teacher, even of 3 yr. olds. Just because you can't walk in the door and know everything to do & how to do it with 15 kids, including 2 special needs kids, doesn't mean you wouldn't be a great teacher. What it means is that someone is running that daycare beyond their skill level. (The Peter Principle in practice) Don't give up although home with Aaron is a great place to be. love, Mom C.
